Chaptarr

One library for the books you read and the books you listen to: Chaptarr manages audiobooks and eBooks side by side, so the same title can live on your server as a chaptered M4B and an EPUB without two separate apps fighting over it. It knows the difference between editions and narrators, which means a dramatized production, an unabridged reading, and the print text can coexist as first-class versions of one work. Multi-part releases and multi-file recordings are handled as single books, and MP3 audiobooks can be converted into one chaptered M4B with chapters preserved or inserted where they are missing. Separate root folders keep audiobooks and eBooks apart, or place eBooks alongside their audio twins; either way, matching uses file tags, folder names, and release metadata to attach files to the right book automatically. Series are organized for you, metadata profiles control which languages belong in your library, and flexible renaming tokens produce filenames that read the same way a human would shelve them. Custom quality profiles per library drive automatic upgrades when a better release appears, and the standard download clients and indexer integrations from the *arr family plug straight in. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-3.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Both Formats, One Library
  • Keep the audiobook and the eBook of the same title in a single instance with multi-edition support, instead of running separate managers that each know only half of what you own.
  • Narrators and Editions Tracked
  • Narrator, publisher, and edition information are first-class metadata, with special handling for dramatized audiobooks and multi-part releases that general-purpose media managers routinely mangle or ignore entirely.
  • MP3 Becomes Chaptered M4B
  • Optional conversion turns scattered MP3 chapter files into a single chaptered M4B through m4b-tool, preserving existing chapters or inserting them when missing, so players show real chapter navigation.
  • Arr Automation Included
  • Standard *arr download clients and indexer protocols, custom quality profiles per library, and automatic upgrades when better releases appear keep a growing collection maintained without manual hunting.

Features

  • Own Metadata Pipeline
  • A modular pipeline resolves book entities across metadata providers and merges them through automated refinement and consensus, purpose-built for books instead of borrowing Readarr's incompatible sources.
  • Dual Root Folders
  • Separate root folders for audiobooks and eBooks, or eBooks placed alongside audiobooks, with matching driven by embedded tags, folder structure, and release metadata.
  • Series and Language Profiles
  • Books are organized by series automatically, and metadata profiles control which languages are allowed in your library so foreign and non-English editions behave the way you intend.
  • Flexible Renaming Tokens
  • Customizable file naming with audiobook-specific tokens covers M4B files, MP3 chapter sets, and multi-file audiobooks, applied consistently across both libraries on import and upgrade.
  • SQLite or PostgreSQL
  • Runs on the built-in SQLite database by default or an external PostgreSQL server through Chaptarr__Postgres__ environment variables, inside a single Docker container on port 8789.
  • Reader App Connections
  • Built-in connections push metadata and covers to Audiobookshelf, Grimmory, Hardcover, and Calibre, letting you choose exactly which fields sync whenever a book is imported, renamed, or retagged.
