MicroBin
A video too large for Discord, a secret that should not live in a chat log, or a config file a headless server needs to fetch: MicroBin turns each into a short link with an animal name, served from your own machine. Paste text or code and it comes back with syntax highlighting, inline image and video embedding, and a QR code for moving it to a phone. Attach one file or several, then decide exactly who can see them: uploads can be public or private, editable or locked, set to expire on a schedule or to never expire. For sensitive material, server-side encryption and client-side end-to-end encryption keep contents unreadable without the password. Raw serving hands the plain bytes to curl, a browser, or another program, which makes the same box a tiny file endpoint for scripts and test rigs. A postbox mode lets people send you files and texts they cannot browse or delete afterwards, and a read-only mode with an uploader password turns the instance into a drop point with exactly one trusted sender. The admin console lists uploads and storage, and everything runs as one small binary backed by SQLite or a JSON file, comfortable in a few megabytes of memory. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. BSD-3-Clause licensed.
Benefits
- Animal-Name Links People Remember
- Every upload gets a short identifier built from animal names instead of a random hash, so links are easy to read aloud, type by hand, and recognize later.
- Encryption On Your Terms
- Choose plain uploads, server-side encryption, or client-side end-to-end encryption where the server never sees the password, so shared secrets and documents stay unreadable to anyone without the key.
- Expiry And Privacy Controls
- Set uploads public or private, editable or locked, expiring on a schedule or never expiring, matching how long a file should live instead of leaving shared material online forever.
- One Binary, Megabytes Of RAM
- The whole service ships as a single self-contained executable backed by SQLite or a JSON file, with no database server to run, so it fits comfortably on the smallest VPS.
Features
- Text And File Uploads
- Paste code or prose, attach one file or several, and share the result at a short animal-name URL with optional editing and expiry.
- Raw Content Serving
- Every upload can also be fetched as plain bytes at its raw address, ready for curl, browsers, scripts, and configuration tests.
- Shortener And QR Codes
- Turn long addresses into redirects on your own domain, and generate a QR code for any upload to move it onto a phone quickly.
- Five Privacy Levels
- Uploads range from fully public to encrypted and unlisted, with editable or locked content, scheduled expiry, and a postbox mode that hides other senders' material.
- Admin Console Built In
- The /admin page lists uploads and storage with size limits configurable per instance, while syntax highlighting and media embedding make shared code and images readable.
