Muxarr
Muxarr cleans up your media library by stripping out the audio and subtitle tracks you will never use, so players stop offering twenty subtitle options and the wrong dub. Tell it which languages you actually watch and read, and it keeps those tracks while dropping commentary, foreign dubs, and redundant subtitles. Nothing is re-encoded: video and audio are copied as they are, so quality is identical and a large film finishes in about a minute instead of hours. Spare audio tracks alone often free ten to thirty percent of a file, which adds up quickly across a big library. Profiles apply different rules per directory, so anime, family films, and western shows can each keep different languages, with priority ordering, per-language limits, and fallback rules like English subtitles only when German ones are missing. Regional variants are understood, distinguishing Quebec French from France French or Latino from Castilian Spanish. When Sonarr or Radarr import something new, a webhook sends it straight to Muxarr, and original language detection makes sure a foreign film keeps its real soundtrack. Track names get cleaned of encoder tags, default and forced flags are fixed, and every output is validated before it replaces the original. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Smaller Files, Same Quality
- Removing spare audio and subtitle tracks often saves ten to thirty percent per file, with stream copying preserving the original video and audio bit for bit.
- Players Pick The Right Track
- Cleaned track names, corrected default and forced flags, and preferred ordering mean your player starts the right audio and subtitles without menu digging.
- Automation With Your Arr Stack
- Sonarr and Radarr webhooks process new imports as they arrive, original language detection protects foreign titles, and rescans keep libraries in sync afterwards.
- Safe On Your Originals
- Every output file is validated before it replaces the source, and metadata-only fixes happen in place instantly, so a failed conversion leaves originals untouched.
Features
- Lossless Track Stripping
- mkvmerge handles MKV and WebM while ffmpeg stream copying handles MP4 and M4V, remuxing without re-encoding for zero quality loss.
- Per Directory Profiles
- Language priorities, track limits, fallback languages, and quality preferences can differ per collection, such as anime versus western media rules.
- Regional Variant Awareness
- BCP 47 tags and track names distinguish variants like Quebec French from France French and Latino from Castilian Spanish during selection.
- Smart Metadata Cleanup
- Encoder tags and codec dumps are stripped from track names, file titles are tidied, and mkvpropedit applies metadata-only fixes without remuxing.
- Library Statistics Overview
- A full breakdown of codecs, resolutions, and languages across the library, with per-file track previews before any conversion is queued.
