TeXlyre

In TeXlyre, two coauthors edit the same LaTeX or Typst file at once, and the PDF compiles inside the browser tab instead of on someone else's server. Start from a template: arXiv preprint, IEEE paper, Tufte book, Beamer deck. pdfTeX, XeTeX, and LuaTeX compile with BibTeX and Biber. Errors turn into readable cards that jump to the failing line. Live cursors show who is typing where. A shared link brings coauthors in, no accounts needed. Chat sits beside the editor, and comments can be discussed and resolved. Tracked insertions and deletions land in a review panel to accept or reject. Draw.io and TikZ editors open inside the project for shared diagrams. MathLive edits a formula under the cursor with a virtual keyboard. A bibliography panel tidies BibTeX, matches DOIs, and imports from Zotero and OpenAlex. Large files travel straight from one collaborator's browser to another. Projects export as ZIP, sync to a local folder, or back up to GitHub, GitLab, Gitea, and Codeberg. Vim, Emacs, and Helix keybindings are one setting away. The app installs as a progressive web app and works offline. Language servers like LTeX LS Plus, Harper, and Tinymist plug in through recipes beside your own signaling and TeX Live package servers. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Coauthors Join With Just A Link
  • Share a project URL and coauthors edit the same file with live cursors, chat, and comments, with no account required to join and no document passing through a central editor server.
  • Compile Private Drafts In The Browser
  • pdfTeX, XeTeX, LuaTeX, and Typst run as WebAssembly inside the tab, so unpublished manuscripts compile locally and missing TeX Live packages download on demand instead of living on a build server.
  • Review Changes Before They Land
  • Tracked insertions and deletions collect in a review panel beside threaded comments, so an advisor or coauthor can accept, reject, or discuss each edit before it joins the text.
  • Host The Whole Editor Yourself
  • A Docker Compose stack bundles the frontend with signaling, file-transfer, and TeX Live package servers, so a lab or department can run collaboration without depending on public endpoints.

Features

  • In-Browser LaTeX Engines
  • SwiftLaTeX (TeX Live 2020) and BusyTeX (TeX Live 2026) WebAssembly builds run pdfTeX, XeTeX, and LuaTeX with BibTeX, Biber, and MakeIndex support.
  • Typst Compilation And Preview
  • typst.ts compiles Typst projects in the browser with PDF, SVG, and canvas output and a log panel, although SVG and HTML output remain experimental.
  • SyncTeX And Error Cards
  • With BusyTeX engines, SyncTeX highlights the PDF region for a source line and jumps back from the PDF, while the error parser lists failures as cards with line links.
  • Yjs Real-Time Collaboration
  • Yjs CRDTs merge concurrent edits over WebRTC peer connections, with live cursors, selections, project chat, inline comments, and FilePizza file transfers between browsers.
  • Diagrams, Math, And Bibliographies
  • Draw.io and TikZ editors work collaboratively, MathLive edits formulas inline, and a bibliography panel tidies BibTeX and searches Zotero and OpenAlex libraries.
  • Plugins, LSP, And Backups
  • Plugins add viewers, log processors, and themes; LSP over WebSocket reaches LTeX LS Plus, Harper, TexLab, and Tinymist; backups go to GitHub, GitLab, Gitea, or Codeberg.
