Text Generation Web UI
Your prompts never have to leave the building: TextGen runs open large language models on your own hardware behind a chat interface and an API that speak fluent OpenAI. Load GGUF or Hugging Face weights through llama.cpp, ik_llama.cpp, Transformers, ExLlamaV3, or TensorRT-LLM, and switch models or backends from the interface without restarting the server. Chat mode gives you conversations with characters and system prompts, notebook mode behaves like a familiar completion editor, and both accept image attachments for vision models and documents for context. Models that support tool calling can search the web, fetch pages, and do math through single-file Python tools, and MCP servers plug in for larger tool catalogs. Start it with the API flag and the same model answers at chat, completions, and messages endpoints that mirror OpenAI and Anthropic, complete with streaming, logprobs, embeddings, and optional API key authentication. Portable builds for Linux, Windows, and macOS bundle every dependency, so the distance from download to a running model is an unzip and one shell command. Because everything is local, prompts, documents, and outputs stay on machines you control, and parallel request handling lets a single loaded model serve a whole team's tools at once. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.
Benefits
- Your Data Stays Home
- Prompts, documents, and answers never leave your hardware, and the API creates no logs and phones nothing home, so experiments stay private by default.
- One UI, Every Backend
- llama.cpp, ik_llama.cpp, Transformers, ExLlamaV3, and TensorRT-LLM sit behind one interface, so trying a new engine or model never means learning a new tool.
- Drop-In API for Your Tools
- Chat, completions, messages, embeddings, and image endpoints mirror OpenAI and Anthropic, so existing scripts and apps run against your model by changing a base URL.
- From Download to Chat Fast
- Portable builds bundle all dependencies for Linux, Windows, and macOS with CUDA, Vulkan, ROCm, or CPU support, so setup is an unzip and a launch.
Features
- Five Inference Backends
- llama.cpp, ik_llama.cpp, Transformers, ExLlamaV3, and TensorRT-LLM engines, switchable from the UI without restarting, covering GGUF and Hugging Face model formats.
- OpenAI-Compatible API
- Chat, completions, and Anthropic messages endpoints on port 5000 with streaming, tool calls, logprobs, embeddings, and API key authentication.
- Tool Calling and MCP
- Models invoke single-file Python tools for web search, page fetching, and math, and connect to MCP servers for larger tool catalogs.
- Vision and Document Attachments
- Attach images for multimodal models and documents for context in chat, with multimodal messages also supported through the API endpoints.
- Chat and Notebook Modes
- Conversational chat with characters and system prompts, plus a notebook completion editor, served from the web UI on port 7860.
