Airstation
Airstation turns your music folder into a radio station where every listener hears the same second of the same song at the same time. From the studio panel you upload tracks once, and they stay in a permanent library you can search and sort by date added, name, or duration. Build the broadcast queue by dragging tracks into order, reshuffle it whenever the mood changes, let it cycle endlessly, shuffle it randomly, or pause the station entirely when the day is done. Playlists group tracks for recurring shows, and the playback history shows listeners what has already aired. Anyone with the link opens the player page and is listening within seconds, no account and no app install, while a live counter tells you how many people are tuned in right now. The player page itself can be retitled to match your station's name. Friends get a shared listening moment instead of another playlist link, communities get a station that plays their own rotation around the clock, and collectors get to hear their library the way radio always felt: live, shared, and slightly out of your control once it starts. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. MIT licensed.
Benefits
- Everyone hears it together
- A shared playback state serves the same HLS chunks to every listener, so the whole audience is on the same second of the track instead of each person streaming alone on demand.
- Upload once, broadcast forever
- Tracks live permanently in the library after upload; FFmpeg standardizes codec and bitrate automatically, so mixed mp3 and aac collections play back as one consistent station sound.
- A queue you conduct live
- Reorder the running queue, shuffle it, loop it cyclically, or pause the station without touching files; playlists save rotations you bring back for recurring shows.
- Listeners need only a link
- The public player is a single minimal web page with playback history and a customizable station title; no accounts, no installs, and a listener counter shows your audience size live.
Features
- HLS streaming engine
- Uploaded audio is transcoded by FFmpeg into a unified format, then split into roughly five-second HLS chunks delivered through m3u8 playlists with buffered segments for uninterrupted listening.
- Studio control panel
- A password-protected studio at /studio/ handles uploads, library search and sorting, queue editing, playlists, and station pause, separate from the public player page.
- Queue and playlists
- Build a track queue, reorder or shuffle it while broadcasting, enable cyclic looping, and save playlists; playback history is recorded for every aired track.
- SQLite plus static storage
- Track metadata and history live in a single SQLite database while audio files sit in a static folder, both persisted in Docker volumes on port 7331.
