Domain Watchdog

When the domain you want is already taken, Domain Watchdog tracks its history, warns you as it changes, and can try to register it as soon as it becomes available. Searching any domain returns its registrar, status, nameservers, and registration events from RDAP, the structured JSON successor to WHOIS. A timeline lays out the full lifecycle, from creation through renewals and transfers to final deletion, while deletion forecasting orders tracked domains by their expected drop window. Watchlists group domains with the events that matter, send alerts by email or as webhooks to Slack, Mattermost, or Discord, and publish an iCal feed plus RSS feeds for events and EPP status. Attach a connector for OVH, Gandi, Namecheap, AutoDNS, or Name.com, and an expired domain on the watchlist triggers an order attempt through that provider's API. The app also lists ICANN-accredited registrars and TLDs, and rate limiting with caching minimizes RDAP requests. Administrators can cap watchlists, domains per watchlist, and webhooks per watchlist, toggle public RDAP lookups, and add custom static content to the instance. Scripts can manage watchlists and connectors, search domains, and request user tokens through the documented REST API. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. AGPL-3.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • Complete Lifecycle History per Domain
  • RDAP events are stored and shown as a timeline covering creation, renewals, transfers, and final deletion, filling the history gap that live WHOIS and RDAP lookups alone cannot provide.
  • Alerts Where Your Team Already Works
  • Watchlist changes arrive by email or as webhooks to Slack, Mattermost, or Discord, and each watchlist also exposes an iCal feed and RSS feeds for events and EPP status.
  • Automatic Registration Attempts at Expiry
  • A watchlist linked to an OVH, Gandi, Namecheap, AutoDNS, or Name.com connector tries to order the domain through the provider's API once it expires and becomes available.
  • Gentle on Registry Servers
  • Built-in rate limiting and an intelligent caching layer keep RDAP requests to the minimum needed, so even a long list of watched domains does not hammer registry servers.

Features

  • RDAP Domain Search
  • Looks up any domain through structured RDAP, returning registrar, entity, and event data in JSON, with a setting that lets administrators enable public lookups.
  • Historical Event Timeline
  • Charts creation, changes, renewals, transfers, and deletion events for each domain, and the tracking table lists monitored domains by expected deletion date, including already deleted ones.
  • Watchlists and Notifications
  • Groups domains and event triggers per watchlist, with email notifications, Slack, Mattermost, and Discord webhooks, plus iCal and RSS feeds exposed through the API.
  • Registrar Backorder Connectors
  • Connectors for OVH, Gandi, Namecheap, AutoDNS, and Name.com let a watchlist attempt purchases automatically; Namecheap requires the instance's outgoing IPv4 address to be registered.
  • Documented REST API
  • Endpoints cover watchlists, connectors, domain search, TLDs, ICANN accreditations, statistics, and user registration, with token login for scripts and integrations.
  • Docker Compose Deployment
  • A Compose stack runs the FrankenPHP app, a background worker, PostgreSQL, and Valkey, listening on port 8080 by default, with a public/content folder for custom static files.
