FolderHost

FolderHost turns a folder on your server into a private cloud that you and your team reach from any browser, with the whole platform shipping as one executable of about 19MB and zero dependencies to install. Upload, download, move, copy, rename, archive, and extract files through a familiar explorer interface, with chunked uploads that survive big transfers and a recovery bin that keeps accidental deletions restorable within limits you set. Code files open in a real editor where several people can type at once, which makes it a surprisingly handy way to tweak server configs or a game server's files together live. Long-running programs can be registered as services and started, stopped, and driven from a built-in terminal that shows live uptime and memory use. Accounts come with granular permissions for every action, optional folder scopes that confine a user to one directory tree, and per-instance storage quotas. Every activity lands in audit logs you can review and auto-expire, sessions use short-lived tokens tied to the login device, and TLS can be self-signed for a LAN or issued through Let's Encrypt for a public domain. Running on a dedicated VPS on RepoCloud with guaranteed CPU, RAM, and SSD, full root SSH access, and a browser serial console. GPL-3.0 licensed.

Benefits

  • One Binary, Zero Dependencies
  • The entire cloud is a single roughly 19MB executable for Linux or Windows. Download it, run it, and the server is live on port 5000, with no database, PHP stack, or package installation.
  • Real-Time Collaborative Code Editing
  • Text and code files open in a Monaco-powered editor where multiple signed-in users edit the same file simultaneously, ideal for fixing configs or server files together without passing copies around.
  • Permissions Down To Single Actions
  • Each account gets granular rights for reading, creating, moving, renaming, downloading, archiving, and more, plus an optional folder scope that locks a user inside one directory they cannot escape.
  • Deleted Files Stay Recoverable
  • A recovery bin holds deleted files under a configurable storage limit, so an accidental delete is an undo instead of a restore-from-backup incident, with separate read and restore permissions per user.

Features

  • Single Binary Server
  • A Go backend with an embedded React frontend ships as one executable or one Docker image, mertjsx/folderhost, needing no external database or runtime dependencies at all.
  • Full File Management
  • Upload, download, move, copy, rename, delete, archive, and extract from the browser, with chunked uploads for large files and a configurable overall storage limit per instance.
  • Monaco Collaborative Editor
  • Built-in code editing uses the Monaco editor with real-time multi-user collaboration, syntax highlighting, and instant saving, turning the file browser into a shared lightweight workspace.
  • Users, Scopes And Quotas
  • Multi-user accounts carry per-action permissions, optional directory scopes that confine access to a subtree, and storage limits, all defined in a commented config.yml file.
  • Audit Logs And Sessions
  • Activity logging records file operations with automatic expiry after a configurable number of days, while JWT sessions last 24 hours and bind to the login IP and browser.
  • Service Manager Terminal
  • Register long-running programs as services and start, stop, or restart them from the browser, with live PID, uptime, and memory readouts plus an interactive console for sending commands.
